PROTECTIONIST (GER) FIRST SEASON SIRE AT GESTUT ROTTGEN 2017.

Protectionist (GER 2010) by Monsun out of Patineuse is nominated to the Scandinavian Breeders series 2020 – 2022 and is standing his first season at the famous Gestuet Roettgen near Cologne. Protectionist is closely related to Peintre Celebre and linebred to Plencia, the foundation mare of the Wildenstein P-family. Monsun is sire of 65 group winners including 22 GR1 winners incl. Amarette, Anna Monda, Estimate, Fiorente, Floriot, Gentlewave, Getaway, Guadalupe, Le Miracle, Manduro, Maxios, Novellist, Protectionist, Royal Highness, Salve Regina, Samum, Schiaparelli, Shirocco, Silasol, Stacelita.

As a speedy son of Monsun he won his debut at two over 1600m and was second in the Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen GR3, 1700m just beaten. At three he won one of the most important Derby Trials over 2200m. He was involved in a freak accident with another loose horse during his final piece of work before the German Derby and therefore could not start in the highlight of the year. After having recovered from this injury he had a great season at the age of four, winning two GR2 races (Hansa-Preis - Hamburg, 2400m and Prix Kergorlay - Deauville, 3000m) and after that winning the race which stops a nation, the world-famous Melbourne Cup, GR1, 3200m in the third best time ever.
As a five year old he was trained and raced in Australia, but did not take to the new training regime. The owner Australian Bloodstock decided to send him back to his original trainer Andreas Wöhler. Protectionist bounced back at the age of six years to his previous performance level and duly won the GR2 Hansa-Preis and the GR1 GP von Berlin with the fastest three furlong stretch run in 33:23 seconds timed in Germany over the last ten years.

His life time earnings in total are € 2.720.971. He finished his last season with a rating of 120 in the international classification and was the highest rated horse in Germany. His trainer Andreas Wöhler (Champion-Trainer) said: Protectionist is the most exceptional horse that I have trained so far in my career. His character and his fighting spirit are unique. We will send our best mare Independent Miss (dam of 2016 German Derby winner Isfahan) to support him in his first season. Eduardo Pedroza (Champion-Jockey) said: Protectionist is a horse with an awesome character and a brave heart. I never met a horse like him. He always came back and won again at the very top level. A real champion.
Ronald Rauscher as manager of the horse reports that Protectionist has a very good book of mares to start off his first season at stud. The list includes four individual group winners, the dams of three individual group winners and half sisters to four group one winners. Three mares from Scandinavia have been booked at this stage and travel allowances will be given. He is showing very good fertility with his first two mares covered already in foal.

His stud fee: € 6.500 (payable 1.10.) SLF.
